IELTS WRITING TASK 2: Water scarcity. I would be really happy if you could give me a comment about my essay!

TOPIC: A serious problem affecting countries across the globe is the lack of water for drinking, washing and other household uses.
Why do many countries face water shortages and what could be done to alleviate the problem?

It is true that in recent years water scarcity has been becoming a serious issue concerning many parts of the world. There are a number of reasons behind this phenomenon and several solutions should be adopted by the government and individuals to improve the situation.

There are two primal reasons why the number of countries facing water shortages is so high. One reason is the overuse of water. That is to say, in some countries water is used for recreational activities such as water parks or theme parks without a care about the effects that it may have on different parts of the world. In addition, the water fountains often seen in some tourist attractions might be a fascinating sight for tourists but they are also a serious case of wasting a precious limited resource. To tackle this problem, the government should charge water at higher prices. As a consequence, people will be more conscious of the amount of water they spend every day.

Another cause of the lack of water is water pollution. This is because of the direct disposal of raw sewage from factories and plants into rivers. The sewage which contains various chemical substances is extremely poisonous and makes water no longer safe to consume. Addressing this problem involves implementing more serious punishments for companies and corporations who violating the law by not installing a proper wastewater treatment system. If stricter rules were applied, the water sources would be protected from toxic chemicals.
All things considered, there is no doubt that water scarcity is an increasingly worrying issue. As I see it, government and citizens all have a role to play in dealing with the problem. Action must be taken urgently, otherwise, we will face horrible outcome in the future.
