Cycling is more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport. Why is it not popular in many places? And how to increase its popularity?

Although cycling is such an eco-friendly means of transport, not many people prefer this means of transport. There are several reasons for this problem and various measures could be taken by governments as well as individuals to widespread the benefit of cycling.

There are some reasons why cycling is unpopular in many places. The first issue is that cycling is physically demanding than other ways of transport such as driving a car, riding a bike or using public transports. In addition, it seems very discouraging on hot summer days for those who have to travel a long distance. Furthermore, since motorized vehicles become well-known, people always want to spend as little time on traveling as possible. Therefore, people mostly use these kinds of vehicles to speed up the journey times and they just forget about the negative effect on the environment.

Fortunately, several measures could be taken to increase the popularity of cycling. Firstly, the government should raise people’s awareness of cycling by deriving them the benefits of bicycles. They should be aware that cycling helps them avoid a sedentary lifestyle and many health risks such as obesity, heart problems, and even diabetes. Secondly, each individual should acquire their knowledge about the importance of the environment and they should purchase a bicycle instead of a motorbike. Finally, the government should raise the petrol prices to reduce the usage of those non-ecofriendly vehicles, as a result, people would change their travel method by using a bicycle due to the high cost of the fuels for those motorized vehicles.

To conclude, it is clear that there are various reasons for the unpopular of cycling, however, there are many appropriate measures need to be taken to tackle these problems.
