Task2 The use of mobile phones is as antisocial as smoking. Smoking is banned in certain places so mobile phones should be banned like smoking. To what extends do you agree or disagree?
It has been acclaimed that mobile phones should be prohibited in some places like smoking due to their harmful effects. While I accept that the use of mobile phones is antisocial in some ways, I believe that it has more benefits and therefore should not be banned.
One the one hand, I agree that the use of mobile phones affects badly in some cases. Firstly, these devices might disturb people’s work or study. For example, some phone users may speak too loud which make others feel uncomfortable and even lose concentration. Secondly, mobile phones can damage people's relationships. Since individuals currently tend to spend a great deal of time on social networks such as Facebook or Instagram instead of interacting with friends.
On the other hand, I disagree that mobile phones should be banned in public places. The first reason is that mobile phones allow people who live far from their rural home to talk and see the relatives any time, no matter how far away. For instance, international students can use mobile phones to keep in touch with their family that can help them feel less lonely in foreign land. The second reason is that cell phones provide us a number of useful applications such as map or weather forecast, which are very essential for our daily lives. Additionally, they are not as bad as smoking and not directly affects people’s health.
In conclusion, while I agree that mobile phones are sometimes antisocial, I believe they should not be banned.
