Explain some of the ways in which humans are damaging the environment. What can governments do to address these problems? What can individualpeople do?
In recent decades, environmental issues which are directly caused by human activities have adversely affected the ecosystem and natural habitats. This essay will discuss the ways people are doing harm to the natural world and suggest possible measures that governments and their citizens can take to tackle these problems.
People do great harm to the environment in two main ways, including air pollution and waste. Gas emissions from heavy industries and vehicles are contaminating the atmosphere, which creates a layer of permanent smog over several cities in the world. Besides, due to the population increase, a large quantities of waste produced each year can pollute rivers and oceans as well as killing the marine creatures.
Governments could make some effort to reduce industrial gases emitted from industries. They could enact rigid laws to lessen the emissions and force factories to generate renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. In addition, they could also impose tax on private vehicles, therefore helping encourage residents to take public transportation.
Apart from the governments, individuals should also take responsibility for the impact on the environment. They could transport by buses or undergrounds instead of driving themselves. Furthermore, by purchasing products with biodegradable packaging, they could also reduce the domestic garbage, thus decreasing the total amount of waste. Indeed, most supermarkets and malls which realise the negative effects of plastic provide their customers with reusable bags.
In conclusion, air pollution and waste are two of the biggest threats to our environment, but governments and individuals could protect it by immediately taking actions to remedy these dangers.
