Topic: Many people believe that the human society has developed into a throw-away society, which is filled with plastic bags and rubbish. What are the causes & solutions?
In these modern days, we are both consciously and unconsciously turning our society into a throw-away one. The Earth has become a giant landfill full with plastic and rubbish which exacerbate the already serious environmental crisis. This essay will elaborate some reasons leading to this problems as well as some feasible solutions
The major cause of this throw-away society is the habit of consumers which is often inclined to convenience. The significant part of this stems from over packaging often seen in the food system. Due to the low-cost plastic bags and bottles, people don't mind much about how unnecessary the amount of them are being used to wrap. Another contributor to such a society is planned obsolescence which is designed deliberately by the manufacturer in order to render the product out of date after a certain period of time. For example, electrical machines and devices usually go unfashionable very soon as new versions will come out before long. And people are always obsessed with what is the latest. As a result, it leads to an increasingly growing mountain of waste.
To curb this pressing matter, there are two viable measures I would like to suggest. The first one is the manufacture of more sustainable products. Single-use products like plastic bags and pollution should be reduced to the minimum. What's more, the government should also encourage the electronic manufacturers to make their products more durable and especially, repairable. The second way to gradually put an end to the throw.-away society is to raise people's awareness of the need to change their consumption habits. This is to say that they should give up the convenience of plastic, be sensible and alert against greenwashing as well as feel guilty when get rid of something too soon when it is still usable.
To sum up, bad habits of consumers, the planned obsolescence built into each product by the manufacturers are the causes leading to a throw-away society. And tackling this problem not only requires government efforts but the engagement of people as well.
