Telling the truth at all times is not essential. On some occasions it is necessary to tell lies, and it is wrong to tell the truth.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

My essay:

What is wrong or what is right is a constant question that has been asked since the beginning of human history, and whether we should always tell the truth is one question of a kind. It is claimed that sometimes we should tell lies, instead of the truth. I completely disagree with the idea mentioned.

There are some certain situations when it is easier to tell lies. The most common occasions where lying is acceptable is when it is said in a family, and people often coat it with some excuses such as to maintain a relationship or to protect a person. For example, when you have to lie to keep it secret for a surprised party or not to inform a fatal disease to a loved family member. It does bring good effect as it can bring happiness to certain people or protects people from being hurt by a brutal truth. Another situation where most people are likely to tell lies is when they are at workplace. There can be some reasonable excuses for not telling the truth at work, such as to be polite or to keep confidential information safe without hurting others' feelings. Thus, telling lies is considered a way to protect the people that one cares about.

However, there is always a way to solve to a problem and remain truthful. The person who is dying has the right to know the truth, so that they can make use of their remaining time to live to the full. Moreover, telling lies, even with goodwill, will make one suffer from the fear that their lie might be unveiled. It is even worse at workplace, as the connection is not as close as in a family and trustworthiness is fragile. Therefore, it is hard to gain trustworthy if your lie is discovered. Relationships or consolation built upon lies cannot last, and though it is difficult, it is a lot better if one is honest from the start.

In conclusion, lying might seem unharmed in some certain cases. However, in my view, people will always be happier if they tell the truth and relationships built on the truth is always strong.
