Nations should spend more money on skills and vocational training for practical work, rather than on university education.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people embrace the idea that nations should allocate money to vocational trainning schools over higher education. From my viewpoint, although it may bring advantages in some extent, I believe that university education holds greater values.
On the one hand, those who pursuit practical skills trainning point out financial benefits. Firstly, vocational teaching is more economical. Many underprivileged students who very hard-working but can ill afford to teriary education tuitions. Schools teaching skills, therefore, can facilitate people to take a better chance to study. Secondly, skillful people may quickly make a living. Vocational guidance will teach them certain jobs as cooking, hotel service to prepare for their careers, so they when finishing studies, they can promtly enter to the labour market. Consequently, they strictly have ability to pay for costs of living and raise family by themselve.
Nevertheless, it is valueable to have access to third-level education. Firstly, speacialised knowledge lay the foundation for practical trainning. Theory is the essential sectors to have a good grasp of issues. For example, students who want to pursuit career related to medicine need major in biology, mathematics and chemistry. Secondly, lacking college’s degree may limit one ‘s options. People who just attend to skills workshops of particular job have not opportunities to switch career. In contrast, graduates from universities gain knowledge from a variety of fields, so they are encouraged to consider a wide range of possible career options. This is as to why bachelor degrees may more impressive for recruiter, and it is also integral even in intership vacancies.
In summary, prioritising skills and vocational preparation may bring a host of merits, it is also worth to follow teriary education.
