IELTS Writing Task 2: Rewards for Students

Some people think that only the best students should be rewarded. Others, however, think that it is more important to reward students who show improvements. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

My answer:

There is an opinion that only the best scorers in schools should be given prizes. Other group of people, however, believes that it is crucial to reward students who have shown great process. I definitely side with later opinion.

Obviously, awarding academic toppers has two main advantages. To begin with, best learners who are given rewards from teachers could inspire other students, meaning that moderate achievers would take the best students as their incentives to strive for better marks. Secondly, monetary rewards as well as compliments should be given to students who have outstanding performances to encourage them to achieve further process. Therefore, academic toppers would step further and accomplish more goals in the future.

On the other hand, no rewards to moderate achievers who show improvements could make them stop trying. Without incentive grants, students would lack motivations, in the sense that their school efforts are not endorsed. This hence leads to poor academic performances in the next semesters. Additionally, learners would experience negative moods as their improvements are not appreciated. They are likely to suffer depression or even autism when they realize how much they try just makes them the runner-ups in the tournament. Therefore, if rewards are offered to toppers as well as moderate learners who have made process, it will boost the educational outcomes of both types of student.

In short, incentive grants is ought to be awarded to not only great scorers but also learners who improve little by little. The prizes will urge all students to move forward rather than being satisfied with what they have done.
