IELTS Writing Task 2: Request For A Review

Task 2: One of the consequences of improved medical care is that the people are living longer and life expectancy is increasing.

Do you think the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Scientific and technological advancements are having a positive impact on various sectors of our life. Especially, health care is advancing with a significant speed to allow people live healthier, consequently have longer life span. People claim that this trend is affecting society in positive and negative ways. Personally to me, its benefits outweigh disadvantages it brings.

Firstly, these positive results are coming at a certain cost for taxpayers. While beneficiaries of medical care are mostly retired people, as all these advancements are achieved mostly thanks to working class members, who contribute to the costs of theses procedures. For instance, developed countries with a low birth rate, such as South Korea and Japan, are already struggling to take care of their elder generation due to high deficit levels in pension funds, which is mostly being utilized for medical expenses.

On the other hand, most people are becoming happier and happiness should be one of the primary factors while approaching social issues. Some of the key prerequisites for human happiness is being able to long and healthy life. Furthermore, as science is progressing, the costs of high quality medical care is gradually going down, which is an important factor for taxpayers. Additionally, due to longer life span, citizens are capable of staying in working class category longer, hence pay back to society.

Overall, people might see two sides of coin while considering health and longevity improvements. Personally, I realize that greater number of people being able to live longer and healthier life means more people are happier and capable of contributing to their nations for longer periods.
