IELTS WRITING TASK 2: PROTECTION OF WILD ANIMALS AND BIRDS
Some people believe that too many resources and attention are devoted to the protection of wild animals and birds. To what extend do you agree or disagree?
It is sometimes thought that people are paying too much heed and reserves to the preservation of wildlife. I personally agree with this statement, and I argue that other major sectors deserve more resource and attention.
There are several reason why wildlife protection is a pervasive matter of concern. Firstly, scores of organizations worldwide have been established to protect wild animals, and these groups require large budget to effectively operate. Secondly, animal protection receives wide media coverage. News about endangered species is transferred on the Internet at an unprecedented speed and scale. Facebook, for example, even has to impose restrictions on posting as a large number of news items are of unknown origin and so can deceive readers. Finally, governments have allocated a large sum of budget on the investment of wildlife parks, zoos, with the expense coming from the training of zookeepers, conservationists. They are expensive to instruct, and facilities and equipment also come at a huge cost to the authority.
I believe that attention and funds should be diverted to other major areas. It is much cheaper to train doctors, soldier and teachers and workers of other sectors than it is to train zookeepers and conservationists. Furthermore, worker of these areas do their jobs that have a direct impact on every members of society. For example, we all use school, hospital, and we all need the protection that soldiers provide. Finally, if government reallocates the money spent on wild animals and birds, many thousands of people could be lifted out of poverty and therefore given a better quality of life.
In conclusion, my view is that we are focusing too much on the safeguard of wild animals and birds and I believe other sectors which benefit everyone should have the resource they need.
