Question: In many workplaces, online communication is getting more common than meeting face to face. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Answer:

These days, in numerous workplaces, web-based communication is becoming more popular than meeting directly. In my opinion, this trend has both positive and negative impact on our lives, and the advantages are equal to the disadvantages.

On the one hand, online communication has certain benefits. First, it proves to be convenient and fast. Since the Internet can be connected everywhere in the age of technology, we can easily send messages to our colleagues and discuss work in a few minutes without having to go to the office. Furthermore, when we go online, we have the opportunity to build work relationships despite unfavorable situations and crises that happen outdoors. For example, in times of lockdown due to Covid-19, interactions on the Internet do contribute to create connection between employees and therefore increase productivity.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of online communication. First, it can affect your health in a negative way. For instance, if we spend too much time looking on a screen, we will suffer from muscle disorders or eyesight problems. In addition to that, Internet-based meeting sometimes fails to convey the emotions in the messages of the speaker due to the bad quality of network connection. Meanwhile, meeting face to face enables us to lively show our feelings through gestures and postures so that people can understand what we say better.

In conclusion, there are different views about online communication, and I believe that it poses the same number of profits and shortcomings.
