[IELTS Writing Task 2] Please Review The Essay For Me.

Prison is common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with better education. Agree or disagree?

Many people argue that the reduction of crime rates would be achieved more effectively through better education rather than prison sentences. I disagree with this view because I believe that each method have its own advantages and own values. Each one should play important roles in tackling crimes.

On the one hand, there are various reasons why prisons are effective in reducing the crime rates. Firstly, prisons play deterrent roles individuals in society which help us to realize the consequences of committing crimes. For instance, individuals would know that if they kill someone, they will be condemned to jail and face loss of freedom, social isolation, separation from community and families, even permanently imprisoned. In other words, prisons help to dispel any ideas of committing crimes. Secondly, prisons help to isolate dangerous criminals, who are threats to the community, out of society. Particularly, serial killers and terrorists should be given life imprisonment so that law-abiding citizens should be protected.

On the other hand, educational methods also play a necessary role to declining crimes because education contributes to heighten people’s intellect and to form a civilized society. When a person is equipped the knowledge of laws, he or she recognize what allowed to do and what not, so he or she will avoid delinquency. For example, a student is taught in a school that it is illegal to trade and store drugs, this student will stay away from drugs if he does not want to be imprisoned, even death penalty. Besides, education also helps people boldly struggle to eliminate criminal acts. When people know an act harmful not only an individual but also to a community, society or the state, they will bravely fight to denounce this act.

In conclusion, I believe that prisons and education play essential roles in dealing with crimes because they tackle problems in different ways.
