Some people say that in our modern age, it is unnecessary to teach children about the skills of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the digital age, some people think that it is pointless to teach children to write by hand. I completely disagree with this opinion because I believe writing by hand helps children to remember information better and minimize distractions.

The main reason why I believe that handwriting is an essential skill that every child should learn is that although it seems to be time-consuming and is an effort, taking notes by hand allows children to have more time to understand and internalize new information, thus, helping them to retain information better. As an example, a study conducted in 2014 at Princeton University showed that students taking notes by hand generally perform better in exams than those who type. In fact, researchers participating in the study ultimately concluded that the more effort we put into recording a piece of information the better we will retain it.

Another reason why I believe that teaching children how to write by hand is crucial is that using technologies to take notes can distract children from their main purpose. Although electronic devices such as laptops or tablets are supremely convenient to use in terms of recording information, they are inherently built to distract users. This is due to the fact that they offer a wide range of entertainment means, which possibly lure children into them. As a result, children might end up wasting their time playing games or surfing webs rather than focusing on their actual purpose which is just taking notes.

In conclusion, I totally disagree with the notion that it is trivial to teach children handwriting. This is because I believe taking notes by hand help children to comprehend and retain the concepts better. As well as this, it also helps them to avoid distractions.
