What are the pros and cons of using public transport?

These days, there are numerous options available for us to select when it comes to means of transportation. Nevertheless, a lot of people appear to be in favor of the public sector for their traveling purposes. Yet, what are the advantages of this decision, and what are the possible drawbacks? In this essay, I am going to consider both sides and try to draw some conclusions.

Let’s start by looking at the advantages of traveling by public vehicles. One of the main positives of public transport for any individual is the benefit in terms of economy. Utilising the public means instead of your personal vehicles is anticipated to reduce your expenditure on transportation by a significant amount. For illustration, the sum of money that you are expected to spend on a monthly basis on tickets for buses or subways is highly likely to be lower than that of petroleum for your motorbike or car. By a simple calculation, one person can effortlessly determine how much he or she can save in a year and use those savings to make a more meaningful investment for themselves. Another major benefit of traveling around by public transport is the fact that we are contributing positively to environment protecting activities. Specifically, scientists around the globe have indicated that using public transport can assist in preventing global warming due to the negative correlation between the amount of gas emission and the number of personal vehicles. In other words, the less we use our personal automobiles, the less carbon dioxide emitted to the environment.

Turning to the other side of the topic, one of the most remarkable downsides of selecting public transport is the loss of personal independence. Traveling by public automobiles requires us to strictly follow the predetermined schedule established by the service provider. Moreover, there are inconvenient cases that the postponement in the time of arrival of this kind of transportation affects our personal timetables, which in turn inserts negative impacts on our work and life. Another disadvantage observed from public means of transportation is the dramatic decrease in comfortability. For example, during rush hour, buses are usually loaded with a lot of people, thus, there is less space for service users to stand or have a seat. This phenomenon tends to be the cause for frustration and stress.

All things considered, utilising public means of transportation is an intriguing option with both ups and downs. While it appears to be the resolution for environmental issues and help people to save a great deal of money, the shortage of individual independence and comfortability during the ride may convince a lot of people to abandon this kind of traveling. From personal perspectives, I do believe that sitting on a bus or a subway can bring us surprising experiences.
