Topic: Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why is it the case? What can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

While museums and historical places are primarily visited by tourists, they tend to captivate little interest of local inhabitants. This essay will specify two culprits as well as some plausible measures to alleviate the problem.

There are two reasons why museums fail to catch the locals’ attention. Firstly, themes of museums and objects on display there usually remain unchanged and static for many years. As a result, local people might find it unnecessary to pay a second visit to regional museums since there is little fresh information. Secondly, they are fairly familiar with the history of their own regions. Since most historical events presented through pictures and items in museums have already been taught to the locals at schools, historical sites may appear fascinating to travelers but rather indifferent to residents.

Despite the above arguments, there are plausible measures to tackle the issue. Firstly, more appealing and engaging events should be organized to attract locals’ interest. For instance, a number of museums have successfully brought in more local visitors by making games and competitions as a glamorous way of presenting historical events. Secondly, curators should be more creative with exhibition designs. There is no doubt that a large number of local residents will pay a visit to regional museums if the interior designs are frequently rearranged. For example, display themes of museums can be adjusted according to seasonal changes or national holidays to captivate the locals’ attention.

In conclusion, although museums could appear uninteresting to local inhabitants due to the tedious display and the locals’ familiarity with regional history, introducing more engaging events and devising different creative layouts can ameliorate the problem. (272 words)
