Question:
Some people think that teaching methodology in the modern classroom should be based on experiential learning. While others believe that traditional approach is still the best.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with the opinion?
There is currently a contentious argument over whether teacher should employ a teaching method that allows students to learn through experience rather than tractional approach. I totally agree with this opinion because of its effectiveness and students’ motivation in learning.
The main reason why I believe that current teaching methodology should include experiential learning is because it helps students learn more effectively and increase their learning motivation. Students are believed to remember their lesson better and be able to apply their knowledge in real life. By having some hands-on experience during a lesson, they will have a better idea of how the knowledge works in reality, which eventually acts as an incentive for them to study harder and more frequently, even if they are not at school.
Another reason why I support experiential learning is because traditional learning is too boring and passive for students to maintain their focus for a long time. Since this approach usually limits interaction between students and teachers and within students together, students almost spend the whole of their lesson passively listening to their teacher. This, in a long run, will hurt their motivation in learning as they have establish the association of learning and tedious moments at school.
In conclusion, I completely agree that experiential learning should play an integral part in our modern teaching methodology over traditional approach. This is because it maximizes the effectiveness of learning and incentivize students to invest in learning more by understanding why they should learn their knowledge. Given this situation, it seems that the ministry of education and training and educational institutions should take steps to develop their teaching methodology mainly based on experiential experience.
