The American film industry has too much influence on the film industry around the world. Governments have a duty to invest money in their own film industries in order to protect and develop their own culture. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

That American movies impact excessively on most countries, some people opine that worldwide governments need to divert more of their funds to the domestic film industry to conserve their culture. In my opinion, I totally agree with this opinion due to the following analyses.

American movies are both a stumbling block of foreign film growth and a threat of over-acculturation. First, it is nearly impossible for filmmakers in most countries to meet the needs of high-quality movies resembling American. Hollywood movies are drastically raising the cosmopolitan standards; therefore, the inland film market, with a lack of resources, cannot enlarge to adapt to those standards. According to research from Havard University, for 60 years, the annual revenues of Hollywood movies have always been the highest one in the world, reflecting the dominance of America in this field. Second, there are possibilities that American culture can swallow the others one day. Although Hollywood movies create cultural diversity in many countries, these exotic customs, perhaps, will eclipse and even erase the native ones. For instance, in a popular movie, the American clothing worn by the protagonist plays a role as product placement, making viewers want to own it instead of their national costumes.

In this challenging state, governments have to invest money in their film industry. As self-efforts are not enough for film producers to survive in that fierce competition, it is crucial to have governmental financial support to protect cultural identity. For example, the subsidization of the Korean government motivated the development of the domestic film industry, making this prevail over American films in the Korean market and conserve the traditional values well.

In conclusion, I agree with the mentioned opinion because of how tremendous American films influence the world and how important governments' investment is to preserve and develop their cultures.
