IELTS Writing Task 2 - Please help me review this essay

(If I could also get feedback on the expected band score, it will be very useful for me)

Topic: Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many people argue that the environment could be improved by governments and large companies, and individuals contribute nothing. While I agree that governments and companies take on important roles in making the environment become better, I believe that each citizen also needs to have particular responsibilities.

On one hand, I agree that governments and large companies can make significant improvements to our environment. It is widely known that governments and companies are prestigious and influential organizations. Therefore, they can bring positive changes by giving suitable orientations which help people be aware of the importance of protecting the environment. For example, if governments set out laws which prohibit acts that cause harmful consequences for the environment, people will have to follow. Additionally, companies can regulate their behavior and operation become more environmentally friendly. Secondly, governments and companies have enough financial resources so as to invest in new eco-technology and develop long term projects which help to solve environmental problems in the future.

Nevertheless, I believe that we cannot deny the role of every citizen in advancing the quality of the environment. The first reason relates to the awareness of people. Governments and companies might create perfect regulations, however, if people do not follow them seriously, they will not be carried out successfully. Hence, individuals have to set in their mind the necessity of preserving the environment. Furthermore, each citizen has the ability to bring positive effects to people around them. For instance, parents can teach their kids do not throw trash in the street, or you can also instruct your neighbor how to distinguish daily garbage according to the purpose of use. If you want to live in a better environment, you must be the first to act. Many individuals with the same mindsets together so as to make strong impacts on a large scale.

In conclusion, while governments and companies hols important roles in improving the environment, I do not believe that individuals cannot contribute anything in this matter.
