IELTS Writing Task 2. Please help me check.

In many countries, people like to eat a wider range of food that cannot be grown in their local place. Therefore, much of the food people eat today has to come from other regions. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh disadvantages?

These days, it is quite common for people to consume food that is not grown domestically. As a consequence, most of the food has to be imported from other countries. While this trend provides some benefits, I believe that the drawbacks far outweigh the advantages.

There are a number of advantages when people eat exotic food. Firstly, this availability of such various kinds of food means people can enjoy a better quality of life. This is because they can have a chance to eat highly nutritious dishes that are not served in their nation. Also, people can save a large sum of traveling cost as the food can be found in a local restaurant. For example, Vietnamese people can eat pizza without leaving for Italy. Secondly, the import and export of food can promote commercial establishments between countries. This can definitely boost the national economy, which, in turn, enhances the well-being of residents as the government has more budget to support the citizens.

However, I would argue that this trend also comes with more serious drawbacks. First of all, the imported food is likely to pose threats to human’s health. In order to extend the shelf life of the products, preservatives and toxic chemicals are added, which makes the food less healthy. Secondly, due to the constant transportation of food, the environment is constantly damaged. In particular, the air has become more polluted because of the carbon emissions from means of transportation. Lastly, the growing popularity of exotic cuisine may lead to the disappearance of some traditional food, which means the loss of local food culture.

In conclusion, although there are certain benefits when people have access to a wider array of foreign food, I believe that the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages.

This is awkward and not natural. It would be simpler and more natural to write locally.
