Topic: The society would benefit from a ban on all form of advertising because it serves no useful purpose, and can even be damaging. However, others argue that there are still some advantages of adverts. Discuss both views and give your own opinion?
It is true that in recent years, advertising has become a key part of modern society. While some people argue that utilizing advertisement of all kind should be deprived from everyday life, I believe that both society and individual can reap the benefits from it.
On the one hand, those who against the use of adverts argue that advertising is likely to pose a threat to customers as well as the young generation. Firstly, advertising has a tendency to evoke impulse purchasing on unnecessary items. This means that people are usually mislead by the glamorous image, for example celebrity endorsement, that the advertisers provides, which may manipulate their buying decision even though there is no real need. Secondly, it is supposed that the young can easily be influenced by advertised products shown on a regular basis. Company usually aim their marketing at children to persuade them that buying their products will make them happier. As a consequence, these kids tend to put pressure on their parents in order to get what they want.
On the other hand, I believe that not only the individual but also the society can profit from advertising. The direct benefit would be for the companies or the advertisers themselves as there is little room for doubt that advertisements enable them to boost sales as well as promote their images widely. For example: However small-sized a business may be, as long as it can make use of this marketing tool, creating brand awareness is just a matter of time. Another advantage of advertising can clearly be seen in the employment rate. It is undeniable that this growing popular industry provides more job opportunities for citizens, which will set a limit on unemployment rate and therefore make contribution to the whole economy.
In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks to adverts, my own view is that it would be a good idea to promote this industry for the sake of the whole country.
