Some teachers think that international student exchange would be beneficial for all teenage school students. Do you think its advantages will outweigh the disadvantages?
It is believed that teenagers can take advantage of participating in international exchange programs. While this may cause some potential drawbacks, I believe that the benefits are more significant.
On the one hand, taking part in international student exchange has some negative impacts. Firstly, it is quite challenging for students who lack the ability to use foreign language fluently to catch up with classes. For example, some student can hardly hear and understand clearly their lecturers, for that reason, they may miss the main point and easily fall behind with their study. Secondly, they may experience cultural shock, leading them to the situations where they get criticized due to the wrong behaviors.
On the other hand, the upsides of this program are more remarkable compared to the downsides. To begin with, students have a great ability to improve a foreign language. It is evident that practicing with native speakers will be more effective in improving one such language and it is the fact that finding foreigners who willingly to practice their mother tongue with you in your homeland is difficult compared to that of their own countries. In addition, exchange students can acknowledge more about many aspects of a foreign country, including cuisine, history, geography, etc. Last but not least, they will be more independent and have the ability to take care of themselves after the trips. This is due to the fact that on those trips, students don’t have their parents always be around and baby them, hence, they have to deal with everything on their own.
In conclusion, although international student exchange may have some disadvantages for teenagers, it seems to me that the benefits are greater for the reasons mentioned.
