Ielts writing task 2 : news media are important in our modern society. Why are they so important? Are their influences generally positive and negative

Since modern technology equipments have increased news media are popular and contribute a major impact on people. However, it brings both benefits and drawbacks. In this essay, I will lock at both sides and try to draw some conclusions.

Let's begin by looking at the advantages of new media. Firstly, it is a convenient way of entertaining. Some researches show that people new spend much time on their smartphone and computer each day to reduce stress or relax after a busy day. Furthermore, one of the advantage of news media is that it help people to update news. What they need to do is suffering the internet on their phone and even they are in Vietnam, they can update what happened in America.

Turning to the other side of argument, government can use new media as a tool to control their citizens. In term of political issues, people can know only by news media which are limited by government. Another issue is that individual can depend on this. They may less go out, stay at home all day and update news by their smartphones.

In conclusion, there are clearly both positives and negatives when using news media. We need to weigh up the pros of its convenience and the cons of government control and its dependence. In my opinion, I think people should use news media in a smart way to reduce it drawbacks.
