IELTS WRITING TASK 2: IS HISTORY STILL IMPORTANT ?
Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today’s world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

While it is argued by some that History is one of the most essential subjects at school, others are convinced that this subject is not as important as subjects like Science and Technology. I personally support the idea that History is crucial and necessary for students to be taught at school.
On the one hand, some would state that Science and Technology are more important subjects than History for two major feasible reasons. First, Science and Technology help students gain insight into every aspect of life such as mysterious physical and chemical phenomena around human life. With Science and Technology, students can broaden their horizons and obtain admirable academic achievements. Second, learning Science and Technology at school can easily boost students’ creativity and imagination while studying History merely revolves around memorizing past events and figures, which seems to be tedious to most students. Some published research has shown that 70% of students prefer Scientific and Technological classes to Historical ones.
On the other hand, despite the fact that classes in Science and Technology are beneficial, I firmly believe that History is still a significantly important school subject. To commence with, History provides students with knowledge about their ancestors’ contribution to the nation thus provoking each student’s patriotism towards their country. In addition, lessons about History help us gain experience from our ancestors’ mistakes so that we no longer make the same mistakes again. Therefore, History is not only necessary for education but also for military strategies.
In conclusion, when technology and Science are crucial school subjects because of their significant benefits, I would argue History is still one of the most important subjects that should be enhanced at school.
