Nowadays, more people are migrating to other countries than ever before. In order to become integrated into society in their adopted countries, immigrants should abandon their old ways and adapt to local customs and codes of behavior.
Do you agree or disagree?
The number of immigrants is raising each day. Many discuss whether they should keep their old lifestyle from their homeland or adapt to fit into their new countries. I would argue that it is widely dependent on each situation.
To begin with, I believe newcomers should quickly learn about the law of their adopted country if they want to avoid making regrettable life choices. For instance, smoking in public is legally accepted in Vietnam but is harshly restricted in most of Western countries, UK is an example. If someone break the law they will be punished according to the law code, even if they have done it not with intention to harm but because of lacking information. Therefore, the law should not be ignored but to be carefully observed in order to not making mistakes.
However, I think immigrants should be encouraged to preserve their own culture and traditions. It is an important way to remember about their origin and to always keep in touch with their homeland. Culture is the core value of people and should not be diminished because of changing places. Also, the new society will benefit from the diverse of a multicultural environment and can take advantage to explore the foreign lifestyle. Many Westerners surprisingly admit that doing mediation and following Buddhism taught have later been playing an crucial part in their life. If a cultural activity is found helpful by any person and also do not make any harm, there is no reason to hurriedly get rid of it.
In conclusion, I believe that people can change their lifestyle for the sake of their own convenience and benefits and still keep what they see fit. It has never been unwise to become a flexible individual and choose what is best for your life.
