IELTS Writing Task 2. I would be appreciate if you can give me some feedback on this essay

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Tests and examinations are a central feature of school systems in many countries. Do you think the educational benefits of testing outweigh any disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

In many parts of the world, tests and examinations play an integral part in education systems. While it can be argued that testing have some pernicious effects on students, I firmly believe that the merits of exams surpass its drawbacks due to its use in evaluating and motivating the students.

The opponents of utilizing tests in school systems might argue that this educational method can pose a threat on the learners’ mental well-being. Revising for an exam is widely believed to cause stresses, which can lead to neurological disorders such as depression. However, this line of reasoning is not sound. Many researchers have found out that the intense burdens that the students have to carry are most come from their own expectation on their own, rather than the test itself. Thus, with or without the tests, stresses will never leave their side as long as their expectations are still beyond their ability.

There are stronger reasons to argue that the advantages of testing learners can offset its disadvantages. First, testing is the best method to evaluate one’s knowledge. The ultimate goal of education is to help students accumulate knowledge about what they want to learn and this goal cannot be achieved if the teachers don’t know what the extent of their student’s understanding is. Granted, only by testing student can the teachers give their students the efficacious studying plan. On top of that, when students have to face the examinations, they are more enthusiasm and passionate in studying in order to ac the exam. Subsequently, their hard-working will add them in gaining deeper insight in their fields, thus, accomplishing their educational purposes.

In conclusion, despite other people’s arguments against testing students, my conviction is that examinations have more benefits than downsides in school systems.
