When it comes to the question that whether or not children whould be given homework, views differ. Some people approve of teachers' giving students extra work at home while others strongly speak against the setting of homework. Personnally, I believe that homework does benefit the education of children; however, it should not be made mandatory.
There are some reasons why homework is beneficial for students' education. Firstly, by doing the homework, children are able to review what they have learnt in class since they need to apply what they have been taught into working through the tasks. For example, when doing mathematics exercises at home, students consolidate their understanding of the concepts taught at school. Secondly, homewok is good preparation for exams. As far as I know, schools aways require their students to take regular exams so as to assess how well they understand the subjects. As mentioned above, when doing homework, students one more time brush up on their lessons; therefore, they could gain a profound knowledge of the subjects and familiarise themselves with the structures of the tests. As a result, they would achieve better scores in the exams.
Even though homework enables children to review their lessons and score better in exams, I contend that children should only be given a sufficient amount of homework. Clearly, their time should not only be spent entirely on homework but participating in other meaningful activities such as playing sports, playing mucal intrsuments and doing vuluntary work also. This way, they can improve their physical health, promote their talents and acquire new practical knowledge such as leadership and collaboration. In addition, spending a whole day long at school is undoubtedly exhausting; therefore, students should be allowed to relax and enjoy themselves when they come home rather than sticking to tedious working papers.
In conclusion, homework has its own important role to play in the education of chilren. Nevertheless, i strongly assert that it should not be made an unnecessary burden on our children.
