IELTS Writing Task 2: Discipline

Firm Disciplines in Teaching Kids. Agree or Disagree ?

My answer:

The punishment for the adolescents is becoming increasingly debatable .There has been a topic of debate as to whether the adults should teach their kids with firm disciplines. I partly agree with the opinion of using strict punishments to manage kids' behaviors and believe there are other ways to raise children properly.

On the one hand, strict penalty plays a pivotal role in educating children. To begin with, firm discipline act as a warning to kids, meaning that it would avoid the children from repeating the same offences. Punishment from adult act as a deterrent which make the child know that their misbehaviors do harm to other people. For example, a kid who is forced to clean up the street oafter having littered candies' wrappers will understand the hardship of street-sweepers who have to deal with a ton of rubbish thrown unconsciously by individuals.

On the other hand, excessively strict discipline is the primary culprit behind the deterioration of kids' mental health. Particular penalty such as corporal punishment could breed anxiety, depression or even autism in just early years of children's life. This therefore leads to not also poor educational outcomes but severe mental illnesses as well. There are several ways to teach children without punishing the wrongdoers. Showing facial reaction could be an effective method,in the sense that this indirect guidance helps children realize whether what they have done is dysfunctional or not and also create a strong connection between kids and adults.

In short, I think strict fines, along with other non-punishment disciplines should be used in appropriate situations in order to better children life and prevent them from relapsing in the future.
