Today more and more people are using mobile phones and computers. Thus, people are losing the ability to communicate face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
ANSWER
It is true that the number of cell phone and computer users has been increasing rapidly. Therefore, many people argue that humanity is facing a downfall of interpersonal communication. While I accept that the usage of these devices for communicating will be more and more popular, I believe that the traditional speaking skill will not be disappeared by this.
On the on hand, speed and convenience of the smart devices are main reasons why they are being widely preferred. With such devices, it has never been easier for people to make a discussion or a talk in any location and distance. For example, without the necessity to travel thousands of miles, leaders of different countries are able to discuss with their counterparts or any people can chat with others via cell phones and social networks. Additionally, due to these conveniences, these communicating devices become an indispensable part of our daily life and we are now more and more rely on them.
On the other hand, there are some reasons to prove that face to face interacting ability is not impacted by the increasing popularity of the advanced devices. Firstly, it is undeniable that young regeneration now is more intelligent, specifically, they speak much more confidently than people in the fast. For example, nowadays in many TV game shows, there are a variety of youngsters or even little children are able to debate or deliver excellently lectures in front of thousands of audiences. Secondly, sometimes people’s skill of interpersonal interaction will be improved with assistance of distance communicating devices. For example, to prepare for actual interviews, many English learners enhance their speaking skill by watching online English videos or speaking with foreigners via social networks.
In conclusion, it is certainly true that the communications via cell phones or computer would be on increase, but this by no means that it results in the degradation of the interpersonal speaking skill.
