IELTS Writing Task 2: Crime and the Police

Prompt: Some countries are struggling with increases in crime rates. Some believe that having more police on the streets is the best way to reduce and combat crime.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Crime is always an enormous problem that all countries are grappling with. It is frequently thought that distributing police on streets optimally helps curb the proliferating offense rate. In my opinion, I would conflict with that view unquestionably owing to its wastage and ineffectiveness.

To embark on, I somewhat assent with points of that perspective. The density of patrolmen will underlie the decreasing rate of street crime. Robber, pickpockets, and assault culprits will be dissuaded. Unlawful trades and vandalism publicly will tend to decline as well. Besides, street crime is not the only offense. Coordinating a large amount of police for that would be a waste and it will lead to the scarcity of force in terms of averting other kinds of crime. Instead, police officers should be deployed equally and properly in other places such as the national border and beaches where are potential for illegal goods delivery or entry. And police should take concern on online crime emerging lately which have extreme adverse influences. To sum up, it would be a wastage.

Though, it is fruitless for having more patrolmen on the streets. In the wake of technological development, high-tech devices can replace the surveillance of police officers on roads. In particular, high-level security can thoroughly prevent burglary and violence transgressions and the street camera systems can control petty theft rates correspondingly. Also, illegal services for trickery motivation become less common thanks to the advent of reliable platforms like Uber in transportation or Shoppe in commerce. In outline, the addition of patrolmen will be ineffective.

To conclude, having more police on street is waste and unproductive. In my view, It is unequivocal to oppose that patrolman on roads is needed due to its drawbacks.
