IELTS Writing task 2 : Crime

Some people believe that young people who commit serious crimes should be punished in the same way as adults. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Recently the rates of young law breakers have been becoming higher. It is believed that punishment for both young criminals and adult ones should be the same. In my opinion I wholeheartedly lean towards the perspective because of the safety of society.

The reason supporting the idea is that the consequences of crime committed by young people are as serious as that of adults. In the last several years, the public has witnessed a large number of shocking cases such as murders, vandalism which are caused by teenagers. When there is a tendency for juveniles to deal with each other with violence, some laws should be introduced in order to curb these situations and protect communities against social unrest

Some individuals might argue that teenager commit crime as they are lacking in knowledge about laws. However many schools in fact have taught students about laws, not to mention that governments recently have paid attention to making laws universal among society via mass media. Moreover, one should note that in some cases, the wrong doings were done deliberately and the culprits were teenagers. Thus, this proves that young people are completely aware of their behaviors and did that on purpose.

In conclusion, illegal actions made by young law offenders should be treated equally as mature ones because of the seriousness which might wreak havoc in society. On top of that, some teenagers in fact are the brain behind , so regulations should be strict enough to be deterrents for young law breakers.
