1. Is freedom of speech necessary in a free society?
Give reasons for your answer.

Throughout the years, the importance of free speech has been considered as basic and valuable characteristics of many societies. Freedom of speech enables people to speak their minds whenever they disagree with authority’s unfavorable actions. However, in some societies, people are not allowed to speak freely due to the suppression of their governments. Although, some people do not agree with the idea of free speech society, I believe that in every country people should be given the right to speak freely for two main reasons.

Firstly, negative actions of governments can come to an end when people are free to criticize their government. In other words, unfavorable actions can be deterred by the people of the country if those people are allowed to speak freely. For instance, in a free speech society, if a government wishes to amend a section of the country’s constitution which in not for the good of the people and the country, people can stand against such amendment if they feel that it is not favorable. This is one reason why I think societies ought to be free to express their ideas.
Secondly, in a free speech society, people can exchange their views and opinions with no fear of their authorities. In addition, people can speak their without being scared of any kind of punishment or suppression by the authorities. For example, during election, people can express their views if they are against the expected future ruler of the country.

In conclusion, freedom of speech is an important element particularly to criticize governments’ unwanted actions as well as to have a free-fear life. Therefore, I strongly support the idea of having free speech societies.
