IELTS WRITING TASK 2: CHILDCARE CENTER

Some people think that childcare centers provide the best services for children of pre-school age. Other working parents think that family members such as grandparents will be better carers for their kids. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is thought by some that childcare institutions offer the best service for young children, while others believe that grandparents provide the best care to pre-schooled children. I consider that they should be looked after by their grandparents.

On the one hand, it is common belief that young offsprings should be sent to childcare centers. In the light of child protection policy, more fundings are reallocated to the construction and maintenance of these institutions. This means that daycare centers are well-equipped with cutting-edge amenities such as anti-myopia tables and studying lamps which are crucial to the development of childrens. Another reason is that childcare institutions provide better shelters for kids. As a result of government funding, most childcare centers incorporate surveillance cameras to keep track of children’s activities, thus preventing unwanted occurences such as falling, tripping, or even kidnapping,etc.

On the other hand, I believe it is a better idea for grandparents to take care of the children. Firstly, as grandparents have lived for many years and even brought up their offsprings, they will have more experience in rearing children compared to childcare professionals. For example, they know how to calm the baby down when they cry. In a family of different generations, sibling rivalries is a norm. Grandparents may know how to resolve the conflicts and help children make their peace. Secondly, grandparents are emotionally tied to children, and they love their children more than other people do. As a result, they put more effort to rearing the childrens, and they could fulfill the children’s physical and mental needs. For instance, when children are sad, grandparents could put their mind at ease either by telling them stories or entertain them.

In conclusion, while childcare centers could offer some benefits when it comes to raising children, my view is that they could develop better if they are reared by their grandparents.
