IELTS writing task 2: alternative energy sources or fossil fuels

I'm preparing for my IELTS exam. Can you please review my essay? Thank you!

Topic: Many countries use fossil fuels such as coal or oil as the main sources of energy. However, in some countries the use of alternative sources of energy is encouraged. Do you think this a positive or negative development?

While the main energy sources in a number of countries are fossil fuels, some other countries are promoting the use of alternative power sources. Personally, I believe that the use of those alternative sources is positive, but fossil fuels should not be the main energy sources of a country.

On the one hand, there are various reasons why focusing on alternative power sources is a beneficial trend. Firstly, many of these sources, such as wind and solar energy, are almost unlimited and available everywhere. People, therefore, can consume them as much as they want. Secondly, alternative sources of power are often environmentally friendly because they are clean and have no harmful effect to the environment. Finally, the development of these sources is an effective solution to reduce our over-reliance on fossil fuels.

On the other hand, I believe that using fossil fuels as the main energy sources are disadvantageous to some extent. The first reason is that burning too much coal or oil certainly have an adverse impact on the environment. In fact, this act produces a large amount of carbon dioxide, which damages the ozone because of the greenhouse effect. Furthermore, fossil sources of energy, which take a long time to be reproduced in nature, are becoming scarcer due to the overconsumption of people. The government, therefore, need to invest more in renewable energy sources for a sustainable development.

In conclusion, I fully support the use of alternative energy sources in some countries, and I believe that other countries should not consume fossil fuels as the main power sources.
