IELTS Writing Task 2 (Agricultural advances)

In spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge. Write at least 250 words.

With the development of technology, agriculture has witnessed breathtaking progress. However, people in some regions are still suffering from hunger. There are several causes for this issue and potential solutions to tackle it.

One of the main reasons why people in some places go hungry is due to the imbalance in productivity and lack of farming techniques. African countries, for example, have poor equipment and simple farming methods to raise crops. Therefore, they produce an insufficient amount of foodstuff, which leads to the hunger of local inhabitants. Meanwhile, farmers in Western countries use machines with cutting-edge technology and fertilizers to increase the productivity as well as qualities of their crops. Besides, some regions have unsuitable weather conditions for farming or natural disasters that destroy their crops. These regions are heavily dependent on the import of agricultural goods from other places, yet in some communities, this is impossible due to poverty. In brief, some areas are still suffering from starvation due to natural and sociable reasons.

However, there are some solutions we can adopt to tackle this problem. It is necessary for everyone to join hands and help those areas suffering from hunger. For example, people can eradicate hunger in those areas by donating money and giving food aid packages. Furthermore, scientists and professionals can help to improve the soil in those regions, making it possible for farming and to teach local people farming techniques. Only when doing this can they raise better crops themselves instead of waiting for aid and support from other places.

In conclusion, despite having agricultural advances, solving hunger problems is still a formidable challenge facing impoverished nations nowadays. However, these issues could be tackled thanks to the aforementioned methods.
