Some people think it is important to keep and maintain old buildings rather than replacing them with modern buildings.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
While some people believe that ancient buildings should be preserved, some argue that these should be knocked down to make way for more innovative ones. In my opinion, the importance of modern structures can not be denied. However, I strongly agree that old buildings need to be kept in our society because of their precious values.
First of all, buildings built in the past contain historical values. These sites could be the witnesses of wars and revolutions, which offer many history lessons to students. If learners only study history from page to page in books, the lessons will be difficult to be learnt by heart, especially with hundreds of dates and events. In contrast, if schools organize some outdoor activities at these historical attractions, the curriculum will obviously become lively.
Secondly, ancient houses still bring economic benefits. Foreign tourists are usually fond of exploring ruins or old-fashioned houses because of their interest in the country’s art and culture. As a result, the government can earn a good deal of influx by turning these places into tourist attractions. For example, Hoi An, known as the most popular ancient town of Vietnam, is the most attractive destination for travelers who want to indulge themselves in the atmosphere of vintage architectures and lanterns.
In conclusion, I assume that it is extremely crucial to maintain the old buildings. Even if the nation needs more skyscrapers to follow the current trend, the ancient spots should be more invested, not only with government’s money but also with citizens’ attention.
