Living conditions in the future have become a frequent subject of debate which concerns people greatly. Since it will become increasingly difficult to sustain human life on Earth, some people argue research on new planets to colonies should be given the top priority to spend money on. While I agree that it is crucial to tackling this problem, I believe investment in space exploration is not the most effective and practical solution.
Governments and scientists around the world keep warning the public to be on the alert for the rapid decline in environmental quality recently. One obvious problem is the rising level of pollution worldwide. For instance, in Hanoi, thousands of tons of garbage are released into the environment and the air quality there is getting worse day by day, which even exceeds the maximum limit established by WHO. Another concern is that natural resources have run out in most areas in the world, which results from lengthy uncontrolled consumption. The growing demands of materials for industry and the advance in means of exploitation lead to sooner depletion of global energy.
However, I believe that there are several aspects to spend money on rather than study on other planets to live in to deal with this issue. First, experiments and expenditure on space require a vast amount of financial resources and time. Nonetheless, there is no guarantee of success after all. Second, that huge funding should be allocated to improve the current standard of living and research on sustainable development for future generations. Governments and entrepreneurs should endeavor to develop advanced technologies to reduce industrial waste as well as environmentally–friendly production.
In conclusion, I consider that although space exploration might be a long-term solution, it is not necessary to waste too much time, resources, and effort on it at the moment as we should focus on more reasonable solutions to ameliorate the quality of life on Earth.
