IELTS WRITING TASK 2.

In spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

These days, despite the fact that humans have made rapid progress in agriculture such as modern agricultural machines and production methods with high productivity, there still have been people who suffer from famine. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this case and suggest several solutions to this conundrum.

To commence with, in many places around the world the land is so arid and barren that can be hardly used for growing crops. This results in the lack of food supply for the local people. For instance, nowadays in several African countries, even though the farmland is vast, many people have died of hunger because they cannot grow plants on their infertile land. In addition, it is undeniable that people from different nations do not have the same technical and scientific levels, therefore not all people can get access to advances in agriculture and thus still go hungry. Take the example of the developing country Angola, most of the farmers in this nation still have not had enough knowledge to use progressive machines and methods to improve their crops yet, which leads to lean years and famine is still a problem.

There are several possible resolutions to this problematic issue. First, all the developed countries had better help developing countries to have opportunities to get access to agricultural progress. This can be done by supporting these poor countries with advanced production methods and equipment. Another solution to this case is organizing campaigns to help people suffering from hunger around the world. For example, the UN did raise funds to help poor countries in Africa with unfavorable natural conditions with a view to reducing famine and developing these countries’ agriculture.

In conclusion, unfavorable natural conditions and uneven developments of science and technology are two major causes of the case. Besides, we can take action to handle this issue by supporting and helping developing countries around the world.
