IELTS WRITING TASK 2.

In some countries, advertisers increase the amount of advertising which tries to persuade children to buy snacks, toys and other goods. Parents object to such pressure on children. But some advertisers claim that there is useful information in these advertisements. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In some nations, the frequency of commercials is likely to be boosted by marketing strategists to tempt young minds into buying some goods such as toys and snacks. While some parents oppose such pressure on their children, advertisers argue that advertising also conveys positive and helpful messages. Personally, the amount of advertising should be wisely adjusted to help children gain the best benefits of it.

Some advertisers maintain that their advertisements are informative as they can help children broaden their understanding. For example, those related to hygiene products can provide basic knowledge about a healthy diet for children. The way that milk companies televise their products perfectly exemplifies this. As milk is a rich source of beneficial vitamins and minerals, it is immensely necessary for children’s physical growth. Thus, when watching those advertisements, children can be aware of what they absorb from drinking milk daily, which may encourage them to drink more.

Nevertheless, parents may opine that the increased number of commercials may somehow deprave minors. First, as children are young, impressionable consumers, they run the highest risk of being subliminally influenced by commercials, which are ubiquitous in their daily lives. Therefore, should advertisers successfully persuade children to buy their goods, these highly suggestible customers will constantly pester parents to meet their demand, and they may even become uncontrollably annoying if not accommodated. Gradually, this habit will potentially instill a sense of rebelliousness into children.

In conclusion, though I admit that parents’ objection to the pressure of more frequent advertisements is justifiable as excessive advertising can predispose children to unruly manners, I still agree that it can also facilitate children’s learning of new knowledge. In my opinion, marketing professionals should moderate the amount of advertising so that children can reap as many dividends from it as possible.
