Some people claim that too much focus and resources have been spent to protect wild animals and birds.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Wildlife conservation has always been one of the major issues of great concern to the goverments and scientific community. Despite a broad consensus on the significane of the natural world, some people maintain that this matter is given excessive emphasis. I strongly disagree with this view as protecting animals is crucial to the survival of humanity.

While the sheer number of species on earth may belittle their importance/ make pepole devalue them, many animals have proved their yet indispensable role in nature. Bee, for example, is one of those irreplaceable living beings. Bee pollinate the majority of the world’s food crops, including fruits and vegetables. Without bees, human would face food shortages as all the plants that bees pollinate as well as all animals that live on those plants would become extinct. For this reason, efforts to preserve the diversity of animal species are essential.

Another compelling benefit of saving wildlife is that these initiatives protect human health. Many medicines, medical researches, as well as traditional medicines involve animals or parts of them. For years, scientists have been trying to produce new antibiotics from frog skin which is known for its bacteria-resistant substance. Or the use of horse balm made from horse bones to treat back pain has been practiced by Vietnamese for centuries.

In conclusion, though some people may see the attempts to maintain animal welfare as costly and undue, I believe wildlife diversity needs to be sustained at all cost because it strongly correlates with the survival of mankind. However, other pressing issues, namely world hunger, global warming, etc. are no less important, and therefore should be adequately addressed.
