Ielts writing task 2.

TOPIC: In some countries, there is not enough recycling of waste materials (e.g. paper, glass, and cans). What are the reasons and solutions?

Recycling is considered one of the most effective methods to resolve environmental problems as it facilitates waste disposal substantially. Nevertheless, in several corners of the world, this is yet to be operated sufficiently and comprehensively due to two main causes namely exorbitant price and lengthy processing, and there remain several possible solutions to them.

The cogent culprit for this phenomenon is the astronomical pricing that is interrelated with the recycling process. Unarguably, there is a wide range of waste materials, which means different modes of equipment are required to recycle them. Thus, in several regions, the government spending does not suffice to purchase necessary and modern technology to recycle single-use materials comprehensively. Moreover, the protracted delays also inhibit recycling seriously. Indeed, a rigorous transformation of non-biodegradable products such as plastic bottles into reusable ones is inherently time-consuming and problematic as waste materials have to be assembled and delivered to the factory. Therefore, some countries prefer other time-saving and efficient alternatives such as waste incineration.

Since this issue is yet to be tackled, one of the potential solutions would be to initiate environment-related campaigns to crowdfund these sophisticated machines. By doing this, the authorities will not be heavily encumbered with budgetary difficulties so they will be content to invest more money into the betterment of the recycling system. As a result, this will potentially promote recycling and ultimately foster a fresher and cleaner community. Furthermore, people should be strict about this intractable issue and boycott retailers and businesses that have yet to switch to recyclable products. For example, the mainstream media and some periodical media have been castigating Coca-Cola for environmental negligence after their blatant refusal to stop producing single-use plastic. Consequently, the company has made its promise to make its packaging recyclable.

In conclusion, though there are many causes behind the inadequacy of recycling throughout the globe namely extortionate costs and prolonged waste processing, I believe that there are possible steps to tackle these issues.
