IELTS Writing task 2

Topic: In some countries, the difference in age between parents and children is generally greater than it was in the past. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

The more developed the world becomes, the more educated and busy people will be. This leads to the fact that in some nations, parents and children have further gap in age than they did in the past. While it is believed that bigger disparity in age is mostly associated with some adverse impacts, I believe that it would exert more beneficial effects on the families as well as the society.

On the one hand, I have to concede that greater difference in age may give rise to undesirable consequences in terms of generation gap and golden age to give birth. The generation gap often brings on misunderstandings and conflicts between children and their parents. For instance, many children of generation Z are fond of having tattoos or dyeing colorful hair to express their characters; however, those behaviors may be considered as signs of bad and disobedient kids. Another drawback of the increase in age gap is being out of golden age to give birth. There are many studies suggesting that women should have babies before they turn thirty so that it can be safer for both mothers and the children.

On the other hand, I am more convinced by the considerable advantages offered by this practice when it comes to better preparation for family members and more educated society. When people decide to have children at an older age, they will have stronger mental and financial support that are necessary to run a family. Take Korean citizens as an example, they often choose to pursue higher education and stable careers before thinking of having and raising a child, which helps not only parents to be more mature and financially prepared but also their children to experience higher living standards. Most importantly, when there are more and more families have better preparation for future generation like that, the quality of life of the whole country can be significantly improved.

In conclusion, despite the underlying demerits that the practice of increased difference in age among parents and kids may lead to, its positive impacts are weightier and could eclipse its downsides in the long term.
