IELTS WRITING TASK 2

Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that governments and huge companies can make the environment better, not of citizens. I partly agree with this statement because citizens can do many things to protect the environment if they have the support of local authorities.
On the one hand, citizens play a crucial role in protecting the environment. Firstly, they can protect the environment by cutting down on using plastic bags. Every day, thousands of plastic packages are used and thrown into the environment, which impacts the environment. To tackle this problem, they change this habit by using paper packages, which is also a friendly-environmentally method to help the environment. Secondly, citizens are trying to use public transport rather their own vehicles to travel and commute to their office or schools. As a result, this can reduce the volume of gas emissions and impact more effectively on combating the greenhouse effect.
On the other hand, local citizens cannot make the environment better without government cooperation. Local authorities and huge companies can organize various campaigns to impart the environment's role to people. Regarding these campaigns, everyone can gain more useful knowledge about environmental protection. Furthermore, governments can also engage the local citizens in using public transport rather than their private vehicles by upgrading the transport infrastructure. As a result, this will cut down on the emissions from cars and motorbikes and help the environment will be better.
In conclusion, I partly agree that citizens cannot change the environmental issues and only governments can make change; because the environmental problems can be tackled if both individuals and local authorities give a hand by doing the action.
