It is more important to spend public money on promoting a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent illness than to spend it on treatment for people who are already ill. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Many people argue that government should invest more money in a healthy lifestyle rather than invest it in medical treatment. While this statement has several benefits, I believe that medical centers and governments should put more effort to cure illness.
There are some crucial reasons why maintaining citizens’ healthy lifestyle is more important. Firstly, when people have more information about healthy knowledge, they can avoid some common diseases. For example, if people do exercise regularly and have a balanced diet, they can keep fit and avoid a sedentary lifestyle, which is a result of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Secondly, people can broaden their knowledge through social media and public promotion, so they can avoid health risks. When governments and local authorities allocate resources to public health campaigns, people would have base knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmissions and they can protect themselves from it.
By contrast, spending heavily on treatment should be a fundamental method that governments and healthy centers pay more attention to because of its benefits. We can admit that due to the enormous investment of governments and national organizations, it can be easier to control the epidemics that have happened around the world. As we can see, very recently, we are attacked by a deadly virus, called COVID-19, so governments and organizations in Vietnam have paid more attention by testing COVID-19 vaccines against disease or installing mobile hospitals. In addition, with the aid of medical equipment, doctors and medical staff can cure and approach new methods to lower the risk of diseases. For instance, the operation to implant an artificial heart can last the patient’s life and this would be an important success of medicine.
In conclusion, it would be a necessity if people maintain their healthy qualities by doing a healthy lifestyle. However, I believe that when people put more effort into treatment illness, they can cure and get rid of deadly disease in order to have a better life.
