IELTS Writing Task 2

Topic: These days, a considerable amount of advertising is directed at children. Should it be banned because of the adverse effects? To what extent do you agree or disagree?

I have some ideas about this topic. Can you check it for me, please? Are those correct sentences.

Why advertising to young children should be banned?

• Being constantly surrounded by commercials as a child will have long-term negative consequences. Advertisements showing violence and cyber-bullies, for example, can lead to more offensive actions in adolescents.
• And adults are often capable of purchasing things they do not need because of an advertisement. If commercials can manipulate adults, they are a much higher chance of tricking children. Children do not have money and will continually pester their parents to buy the newest toy.

Why advertising to young children should not be banned?

• If ads were banned, many businesses would see a drop in revenue and earnings, which would inevitably impact unemployment rates and the economy.
• In many countries in the world, Coca-Cola and Pepsi, for example, provide thousands of promotional job openings around the globe across their various divisions. If an advertisement is prohibited, a substantial number of jobs, such as advertisers, will become unemployed.

=> Therefore, we should teaching children the purpose of commercials and the fact that not everything they see about products is accurate may help them make better choices when they want those products. And in our daily lives, we should be careful of the number of ads we see and remind ourselves that we do not need anything that is sold to us.
