Task 2: Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace their functions. Do you agree or disagree?

In today’s society, the outpouring of technological advances has replaced many parts of humanity’s life, including one of the most conventional ways of reading which is going to public libraries. Some arguments are discussed that communal libraries are now redundant and unnecessary as they have long ago been substituted by the presence of modern technology. From my perspectives, this may be regarded as misconception.

On the one hand, long gone are the days when libraries were once ubiquitous. In the light of newly-introduced technological contrivances, the position of which have recently prevailed among the society, specifically the young. As a matter of fact, public libraries are becoming all the more abandoned and deserted. Rather than commuting to libraries on a regular basis to work or study, it is much more likely for readers to stay at home, browsing the Internet to look up for whatever they need and consider E-book an alternative source to conventional paper-printed documents.

On the other hand, unlike in the past few decades, computers and internet-connected mobile devices are much more affordable. Thus, most of readers would be liable to rely on computer technology as a dominant source of information whose genuineness and authenticity are not guaranteed. Other than serving as an abundant supply of books, libraries themselves may be communal places that cater to the community’s need in which students may find it ideal to study.

In conclusion, notwithstanding the seemingly evident superiority of computer technology over traditional libraries, the demise of which is unjustified and groundless. The proclaimation that sustaining public libraries is pointless may be just one-sided. All factors thoroughly considered, it is needless to say that one tends to be favour of the widespread acceptance of communal libraries.
