Ielts writing task 2

People are consuming more and more sugar-based drinks. Why? What can be done to reduce sugary drink consumption?

It is true that the consumption of sugary drinks has significantly increased in recent years. There are a number of reasons behind this phenomenon and several solutions should be adopted to improve this situation.

There are two primary reasons behind the rise in sugar-based drink consumption. One reason is sugar and caffeine, which are two main addictive properties found in most beverages. These substances give people an instant energy boost to help them concentrate on their work and study, but they also cause a drop in energy quickly after consumption so that they have to drink another one to get an extra boost. Furthermore, many people find impossible to quite consuming soft drink or other sugar-based beverages. If they stop drinking them for a short period of time, they will experience some symptoms, such as headaches, tiredness or poor concentration.

Fortunately, several measures could be taken to prevent this problem. The first solution would be an increase in the amount of tax for these products, as people might think twice before buying a coke or soda, for example. A second measure would be to limit advertisements promoting sugar-based drinks that are targeted on children and young people. Instead, there should be more television programmes that educate on a healthy lifestyle, specifically, a drawback of consuming sugary drinks.

In conclusion. It is clear that there are various reasons for the addiction caused by some properties in sugary drink and steps need to be tacked this problem.
