Essay & Composition Writing

IELTS writing task 2

Thank you very much for comments and help

Topic: Some people think that children should learn to compete, but others think that children should be taught to co-operate so that they could become more useful adults. State some reasons for both views and give your opinion.

My essay:

Living in a world which ever-increasing population, many children are taught to be compete with each other from their earliest memories so that they surpass others. It is quite a good idea with many people, but think about this, will they become successful and achieve greater things in the future without learning to co-operate with others. This essay will point out these two view points and voice my personal opinion.

From one side, there are obvious reasons why that competition skill has to be instilled into the children from an early age if they want their future life to be much brighter. In the current world, competition is everywhere. If you want to become a president, there is a competition. The same as when you want to become a general manager, you need to take part in a competition. Without competitions, it is hard to survive in this world. So it is good to teach children to compete. Competitions can help children learn skills they will use throughout their lives and help them enjoy the joy of winning when they try their best. This help them to be mature and have the courage to move on the path of life.

On the other hand, to survive and prosper, either at school or in society, co-operation is essential. No one can solely rely on his own talents to achieve academic success. Co-operativeness has been linked to greater learning, emotional maturity and strong personal identity. Children often become more flexible in theor thinking and willingness to invent creative solutions. The result is enjoyment, personal confidence and a feeling of self-worth. As the personal power grows, children will get that '' I can make a difference'' feeling.

In conclusion, I encourage kids to co-operate with each other. In a world that people become increasingly independant, it is imperative to teach our children how to work with rather than against each other.
