Questions: Many animals are being hunted to the brink of extinction in order to fulfill the demand and greed of mankind for decorative purposes as well as for other reasons, such as traditional medicine.
How can this issue be tackled?
My answer:
So as to meet the demand and greed of humans for different purposes, more and more animals are facing extinction. This essay discusses the measures governments and individuals could take to tackle this issue.
There are several actions citizens could take to end wildlife poaching. First, a simple solution would be to decrease demand for animal products, such as elephant tusks, by not buying them. If no one is buying the products, there will be no need to kill the animals. A second measure would be to do voluntary work at animal conservation centers where lots of endangered species need care. In other words, we could treat injured ones, clean enclosures and educate visitors about the importance of conserving wildlife, as well as the potential dangers of overhunting, which helps protect animals from extinction.
Governments could certainly take steps to put an end to poaching which has had a catastrophic impact on both wildlife and human life. One way to tackle this issue is to take stricter action against illegal hunters. This means they could increase the fines for hunting illegally and make it an offense punishable by prison, which are more likely to discourage illegal hunting. Another method of dealing with this issue is to impose bans on trophy hunting which is the hunting of wild game, such as rhinos and lions, for human recreation. For example, The New York Times reported that this type of hunting is banned all over South Africa, as part of new strategies of its government to maintain wild populations.
In conclusion, by cracking down on illegal hunting and purchasing less animal parts, we could protect animals from going extinct.
