Topic: Scientific research should be carried out and controlled by governments rather than private companies. Do you agree or disagree?

My essay:

It is undeniable that scientific research is one of the important factors in the life of each nation. Some people believe that governments should take responsibility for conducting and controlling scientific studies rather than private organizations. In my opinion, I partly agree with this view.

On the one hand, there are some reasons why governments over the process of carrying out a research project are one of the significant benefits. Firstly, some non-profit projects as environmental research can improve the quality of people’s lives, but it is hardly ever received the care of private companies. Therefore, the governments can have social responsibilities, so, they can fund these researches and control them so as to improve the standard of living and make society better. For instance, they can carry out research into ways of dealing with global warming, both developed and developing countries have to research to deal with environmental problems in their own countries. Secondly, is is important for the government to manage its activities in order to provide high-quality and reliable results.

On the other hand, over the past few decades, there have been many private companies conducting valuable research on various areas such as space exploration or renewable energy sources. First, scientific research requires a huge amount of money to be conducted. Therefore, this has to lead to putting pressure on the national budget. Because the government can have too many things to spend, they might not adapt these financial requirements then the private organizations can solve these problems so as to make sure these projects can be researched. Another reason is that since the top priority of companies is to earn money, they would have more motivation to conduct research more quickly and more efficiently. For example, pharmaceutical companies have been carrying out extensive research to solve generic drug problems and then provide them for patients.

In conclusion, I believe that both governments and private companies should be involved in research activities.
