Question: Some people think that schools should select students according to their academic abilities, while others believe that it is better to have students with different abilities studying together.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

My answer:

People have differing views with the regard to the question of which form of classroom management is more beneficial for students. While diving them by ability has some benefits, I take the view that teaching students of different levels as one group is more advantageous.

The major advantage of separating pupils by their academic abilities is connected to individualized instruction. A class in which some learners coast through their tests while others struggle to comprehend a module may very well be causing teachers not to identify the most effective teaching strategies. Therefore, streaming pupils by their proficiency levels is more likely to help institutions personalize teaching and meet the needs of each individual student. For example, educators group all struggling students together and explain basic concepts to them until they can grasp those things while high-achieving ones take accelerated classes and are taught with advanced topics. As a result, the practice gives young people the opportunity to progress at their own pace and make a great contribution in their academic development.

Nevertheless, my view is that students enormously benefit from a mixed-ability classroom for following reasons. First, being in this sort of classroom doesn't make low achievers feel inadequate and lose motivation like being placed in low-level groups. Second, if schools eliminated setting by ability students would have access to the same learning material and all be taught by experienced teachers which promote equality in modern society. Finally, sometimes average or low-level students pick up ideas faster and are better at some subjects than high-attainers, therefore, when studying all together, they can peer-teach and learn from one another, which improve educational attainment in pupils of all levels.

In conclusion, tracking can boost achievement among students by providing personalized instruction, however, I attribute successful learning to teaching them as one group.
